Quemetco battery recycler in City of Industry to pay $2.3M fine, fix problems
Have you or a loved one been affected by the Quemetco Battery Recycler Facility? That facility was within 600 feet of homes in Hacienda Heights and Avocado Heights. The facility is also within two miles of schools and homes in La Puente and Bassett in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley.
A lead smelter near Hacienda Heights has settled a lawsuit brought by state environmental agencies and California Attorney General Rob Bonta that involved 29 violations of hazardous waste handling and excessive toxic air emissions.
Quemetco, Inc., has agreed to make improvements to its facility and pay $2.3 million to settle enforcement actions brought by the state Department of Toxic and Substances Control (DTSC) in 2018, according to a settlement approved by the Los Angeles Superior Court late Tuesday, Dec. 13.
Join our Mass Tort action to not only compensate those affected by this, but to ensure responsibility is taken and this never happens again. California residents deserve better than this and both the state and Quemetco need to be held responsible.
Join us today to get the compensation you deserve.
