Rocketdyne Canoga Avenue Contamination Lawyer — Canoga Park TCE & PCE Claims
Testing at the former Rocketdyne rocket engine plant at 6633 Canoga Avenue found trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE) above environmental screening levels at every location sampled. Keosian Law LLP is reviewing claims for nearby residents, property owners, and former workers and their families.
This site is legally and factually distinct from the Santa Susana Field Laboratory. Keosian Law LLP is not affiliated with RTX Corporation, Boeing, or any government or regulatory agency. Exceeding a screening level does not by itself establish health harm; further evaluation is warranted.

Act NowCase Overview
Location
A roughly 48- to 56-acre former rocket engine manufacturing and testing plant at 6633 Canoga Avenue in Canoga Park, adjacent to the Westfield Topanga mall. It operated from 1955 until it closed around 2010 and employed as many as 22,000 workers at its peak.
Contaminants at Issue
Trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene/perchloroethylene (PCE) — degreasing solvents used heavily in engine manufacturing. Recent research links TCE to Parkinson’s disease, and PCE has been linked to several cancers. The primary exposure pathway of concern is vapor intrusion into overlying homes and businesses.
Testing & Findings
A June 2024 Haley & Aldrich, Inc. report prepared for RTX Corp. and submitted to the State Water Resources Control Board detailed 66 soil vapor and 18 groundwater samples taken at seven locations between October 2023 and May 2024. All seven locations exceeded environmental screening levels.
From 1955 until it was shuttered around 2010, North American Aviation and Rockwell International — later The Boeing Company and Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne — operated a rocket engine manufacturing and testing facility at 6633 Canoga Avenue in Canoga Park, California. The roughly 48- to 56-acre site sits next to what is now the Westfield Topanga mall, employed as many as 22,000 workers at its peak, and built engines used on the Apollo lunar missions and the NASA space shuttles. Decades of solvent use left the soil and groundwater beneath the property contaminated with trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene, also called perchloroethylene (PCE). The site is regulated by the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board.
In June 2024, a report prepared by Haley & Aldrich, Inc. on behalf of RTX Corporation (formerly Raytheon Technologies Corporation) and delivered to the State Water Resources Control Board detailed soil vapor and groundwater testing at the site: 66 soil vapor samples and 18 groundwater samples collected at seven locations between October 2023 and May 2024. Every one of the seven locations showed solvent levels above environmental screening levels. The report recommended further testing north and east of the site — the direction groundwater flow tends to carry contamination — an area that includes a residential property on Remmet Avenue where PCE has been detected.
The water board has said it notified roughly 7,000 residents and businesses within a 500-foot radius of the site, but multiple nearby residents have told the Los Angeles Times they were never notified of the testing or its results. The primary exposure pathway of concern is vapor intrusion, where solvent vapors migrate from contaminated soil and groundwater into the indoor air of overlying homes and businesses. Recent research has linked TCE to Parkinson’s disease, and PCE has been linked to several cancers; California banned PCE at dry cleaners in 2023.
This facility is legally and factually distinct from the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) — the Rocketdyne/Boeing/NASA/DOE nuclear research site in the Simi Hills where a 1959 partial reactor meltdown occurred. The two sites share the Rocketdyne name and overlapping corporate ownership, but they are separate properties with separate contamination histories and should not be conflated. If your concerns relate to the Simi Hills site, see our Rocketdyne / Santa Susana Field Laboratory page.
Keosian Law LLP is reviewing claims and monitoring official updates. As the Haley & Aldrich report itself notes, exceeding an environmental screening level does not by itself prove health harm — further evaluation is warranted. Our review is investigative only, no legal conclusions have been reached as to any party, and no outcome is guaranteed.
