Saddleridge Fire Lawsuit Overview

The Saddleridge Fire ignited on the night of October 10, 2019, in the foothills near Sylmar in the northern San Fernando Valley and burned more than 8,800 acres across Sylmar, Granada Hills, Porter Ranch, and surrounding communities. The fire destroyed 19 structures, damaged dozens more, and forced the evacuation of approximately 100,000 residents — among the largest mandatory evacuations in Los Angeles history.

Cause of the Fire

Investigators determined that the Saddleridge Fire originated near a Southern California Edison transmission tower. Eyewitnesses reported electrical activity at the tower immediately before the fire ignited, and SCE reported a transmission line incident at the time. Plaintiffs alleged that SCE's failure to de-energize lines during red flag conditions and inadequate vegetation management contributed to the ignition and rapid spread.

Settlement and Resolution

The Saddleridge Fire litigation has largely resolved through settlements between SCE and affected homeowners, businesses, and renters. Recoveries addressed property damage, personal property loss, displacement, lost income, and emotional distress. Limited late-filed claims and unresolved derivative matters may still be pending in individual cases.
